Selling Sex Within Ads
This ad is a shoe ad for American Apparel. The uses a women in the first image on her knees as a guy puts his foot to her butt as she is lifting up her dress. The second image is of both a man and women; the women is standing in front of the man and he is lifting up her dress. I think that Jean Kilbourne would object to a couple of things in these images. One of the things that I believe she would object to is how there is no faces in any of the two images and that it is mainly the lower half of the women and mans body. Another thing that I think she would object to is how the women is lifting her dress up so that the man's foot can go underneath the dress. Same with the second image on how the women is letting the man do what he wants by lifting up her dress as he has a hand on her thigh and she is standing there like nothing is happening.

These pictures show exactly what Jean was talking about in her video. I mean it's a shoe ad so why is the girl's butt hanging out? And i agree with your perspective about the second image by saying the girl is letting the guy behind her do whatever he wants.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your commentary on the two photos. The fact that the woman in the photo is not only on her knees, but we must point out the fact that her red dress resembles the one worn by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, a movie we all know is about a prostitute. You cannot see her face, but also, the man in the first photo isn't even touching her with his had, he is using his foot. The part of the body we use to step on the filthy ground, and he is putting it on her body. It is very sad.
